Hello everyone,
Ta̍k-ke hó, ciao a tutti!
I’m Phín-tsì, originally from Taiwan, now living in Canada. First time here!
I translate, interpret, teach, and study languages as my work and pastime. I’m also the curriculum developer and course material writer/editor at Bite-Size Taiwanese, a podcast that talks about Taiwanese language and culture with supplemental learning materials.
My main languages are Taiwanese, Mandarin, English, and Italian (B2-C1), and I have tried learning a dozen other languages.
The languages I’m generally interested in are: Italian dialects, Japanese, Hakka, Amis, Tibetan, French, Spanish, Dutch, Icelandic, Swedish, German, and Vietnamese. I’ve recently been attracted to Danish because of a TV series called “Borgen”
The complicated history and Italian colonization of Eritrea I learned from an Eritrean friend also arouse my interest in Tigrinya, but I have no idea where to start. There seems to be scanty resources for this language. I think Tigrinya or Maltese will likely be my first Semitic language if I ever start lol
There are just too many languages in the world, and I already have enough on my plate - I’m not a fast learner, given my track record and work ethic (or lack thereof)…
Anyway, maybe a little too much about language. I like science, music, and reading by the way.
Nice to meet you!
