At the start of this year I was planning to attend the 2020 Conference live in Mexico. Probably many on this forum were. It was to be my first polyglot conference, Since this year has turned out differently than planned for all of us, I am happy for small things like – the fact that I was able to attend the Polyglot Gathering online. It was great, and I’m looking forward to the Polyglot Conference now as well.

English is my native language.
I speak German (C1) and am learning
Spanish (B1) as well as
Hungarian (A2) – love this language, but it is very tricky!
and Dutch (A1) – which I just started recently.

On my list of “want to speak” languages are Croatian, French, and Mandarin.

Hallo, welkom hier. What great languages list you have. As a Dutchie i off course wonder why you choose to learn Dutch?

I can understand that. But speaking Dutch with a German accent wouldn’t be a problem either (With an English accent you have the problem people will start speaking English with you). We have a lot of regional differences (and even 3 different regional languages). So accents are common.
For instance lots of people have problems with that hard g-sound. And so do I! I come from the south where people use a soft g-sound. I moved away 15 yeas ago but i still can’t reproduce that hard-g. People hear that i’m from the sound often within the first 5 minutes of conversation.

Groetjes!
