For those of you who attended my little Topic Room talk about Balinese language and dance/music practice, thank you for coming! That was the first time to discuss this topic at any length to an audience, so I’m grateful that so many folks were indeed interested.
Just to follow-up about extensions of the “gamelan mulut” (‘mouth gamelan’): here is a rendition of the famous kebyar composition “Jaya Semara” (‘Victorious in Love’) by a whole bunch of music academy alumni - so they most likely did not have to ‘pre-arrange’ all the utterances beforehand; they probably just worked on timing and cueing of their parts.
And from the first couple of seconds in this clip, we get utterances with Balinese solfege notes (adjusted accordingly to the instruments that are supposed to play them)!
