Hi humans,
My name is Esther. I am so excited about this conference, and to meet all you new folks! Though I would have loved to meet you in person, this makes it much more accessible. I am a student in Feminist Studies, mostly working on mobility studies and refugee rights. I have been living in Quebec for a few years, attended Langfest last summer where I discovered this beautiful community. I speak quite a few languages, but take quite a lazy approach to them, since language interests me as a medium to communicate with people, and as a political ground for change, rather than in itself. I decide to learn a new language from the random people I encounter. What triggers you to start learning a new language? I just started learning Hebrew a few days ago, because I am moving to Palestine (covid allowing). I was travelling in the Açores last year so wanted to learn Portuguese. Living on unseeded territory of so-called Canada, I am learning Indigenous languages. I started learning Inuktitut and Slavey. I am focusing on Norwegian and Czech for the moment, but there are many other languages I will learn.
