Dumelang, lebitso laka ke Alex en ek is 'n nuwe lid

Hi howzit people, hope you guys are excited as well for the conference!

Alex here, originally born in Indonesia and moved as a baby to South Africa with some episodes in England, the Netherlands and Germany in the last decade as well. I’m currently doing my postgrad (unrelated to the linguistic field) in Poland and I enjoyed cooking (people told me that I’m a mean cook but I would beg to differ), hiking/trekking, reading (particularly classics or unexplored titles from Asia/Africa) and dabbled in herpetology amateurishly as well.

My native language: English (ZA)
My C1/C2 languages: Afrikaans, Indonesian, (Standard) Malay
My B1/B2 languages : Dutch, Ambonese Malay Creole, German and Spanish
My A1/A2 languages: Polish, Sesotho, Hokkien and Yiddish
Looking to explore on: Xhosa, Filipino and Czech

In particular, it would be awesome to be able to refresh either my extremely rusty Sotho as it has been a decade since I’ve used it or some Riau (I believe closer to Semenanjung and Singaporean) Hokkien. Other than that I would like to have some little chats or just to listen on the “bucket list” languages just for the sake of grasping it.

Looking forward to meet you guys in a month! Stay safe!

Hi Alex! Your post immediately caught my attention with the dumelang and the howzit.
Hello from a fellow (?) South African! Though not in Indonesia, I live just nearby in Singapore.

Bly om te hoor jy kan ook Afrikaans praat. My Indonesies is swak maar seker goed genoeg om kos te bestel en basiese goed te gesels.

Aangename kennis!
